Village Park, Public Beach and Pavilion Located a quarter-mile south of the intersection of routes 8 and 30 in Speculator. Basketball court, bocce ball court, horseshoe pits, ball field, barbecue pit, picnic tables, playground, public restrooms, small boat/canoe/kayak launch and Rt. 66, a tribute to the past in the form of small buildings representing a church, school, barber shop, gas station, general store and more.   Sacandaga River Community Park A handicapped-accessible pathway through a mix of wetlands and quiet woods with boardwalks, picnic tables, barbecues, canoe landing, and meditation area. Five interpretive stations feature native guides, logging history, aboriginal peoples, etc. Many interpretive signs identifying ferns, flowers, animals, etc. Entrance at east side of the ball field (past the Village Pavilion).   Mountain Biking Trail System   Hit the trail in Speculator, where you can bike “The Speculator Loop” featured in Adirondack Life magazine. The trail system consists of two loops, both on wide, hard-packed logging roads that vary in terrain. One is 13.7 miles and the other, which passes Kunjamuk Cave, is 7.2 miles. An information kiosk at the ball field on Rt. 30, in front of the basketball court, has detailed trail maps and information. The trails are open from May to October and are free of charge.   Lake Pleasant Golf Course 2537 Rt. 8, Lake Pleasant, NY (518) 548-7071 LPGC2@frontiernet.com A challenging and well-maintained nine-hole course located on Route 8 just four miles west of the village center. Semi-private, open to non-members even during tournaments. Nine holes, 5,698 yards, par 70. Pro shop, lessons, rental clubs, riding carts, all day play. Open May 1 through Columbus Day dawn to dusk.     Downhill & Cross-Country Skiing Oak Mountain Ski Center website: www.oakmountainski.com Located on Elm Lake Road - just east of the intersection of Routes 8 and 30. New quad lift, tubing, snow-making, night skiing, boarding park, new lodge, special events year-round.  518-548-7311 Cross-Country Skiing There are two official cross-country ski trails within the town. The first runs along the Kunjamuk River and starts behind the pavilion on Rt. 30. The second is the Lake Pleasant Nature/Ski Trail, a 1.5-mile loop that begins along the side of the old Lake Pleasant Firehouse at the county complex on Rt. 8 (to the left of the jail at the intersection of Rt. 8 and S. Shore Rd.)    Municipal Tennis / Pickle Ball Courts Two courts located near Oak Mountain Ski Center entrance have been converted to play pickle ball, and two tennis courts are located on the hill across from Lake Pleasant Golf Course (shown). Free.   NYS Campsites and Boat Launches website: www.dec-campgrounds.com Moffitt Beach State Campsite: 518-548-7102 Lewey Lake State Campsite: 518-648-5266 Snowmobiling The Town of Lake Pleasant has 51 miles of groomed state snowmobile trails and 20 miles of local trails that connect to over 750 miles of trails within the county. All the trails are machine groomed by our Parks and Recreation Department along with our two snowmobile clubs.   Wakely Fire Tower The Wakely Mountain Fire Tower at 92 feet is possibly the tallest in the Adirondacks and offers spectacular panoramic views. The 3.2-mile hike to the summit starts with almost 2 miles of hiking on an old dirt road, followed by a relatively steep 1.2-mile climb to the summit. Take Cedar River Road 11.6 miles from its junction with State Route 28/30 in the Town of Indian Lake to reach the trailhead.
